This is a second version of Gapstow Bridge, one of the nicest bridges in New York City's Central Park. In this painting, there is a slightly different vantage point. The lighting is also different than the first that I did, and the sun is lower in the sky. This leads us to be able to explore how some areas look when they are much more in shadow, and it's always interesting to see how different the same place can look in different light. Without light, we would see nothing. When there is a light source, it determines how everything we see will look. I love to see how the color of the different trees show in slightly different shades of green. The symmetrical shape of the hard natural stone structure of the bridge stands in stark contrast to the organic quality of all of the trees surrounding it. And who doesn't want their bridge with a side of ivy?
